It started last Friday, October 8, when we hosted the exclusive executive breakfast “Executive Insights DC: How 3 DC Organizations Achieved Work Management Success”.
Happy Friday! How was your week? It’s been a great and busy week of work management events for me.
It started last Friday, October 8, when we hosted the exclusive executive breakfast “Executive Insights DC: How 3 DC Organizations Achieved Work Management Success”. The turnout was awesome! We are thankful to everyone who participated including presenters Arpan Shah, Bill English, Marie-Michelle Strah, Joe Snyder and Matt Fritts. Checkout Bill’s presentation on “Top 10 Best Practices to Achieve SharePoint Success”
After that, we participated at PMI Global Congress North America 2010 (PMINAC) and had a blast meeting with fellow project managers, partners and customers. As I reflect on all the goodness of PMINAC, I’d like to share 5 memorable quotes from the event:
1. “Turning good intentions into positive outcomes. That’s what project managers do.” – Pres. Bill ClintonFormer US President Clinton keynoted PMI Global Congress North America 2010. His speech was very inspiring and he highlighted the fact that there are a lot of opportunities for project managers to be involved in delivering positive outcomes.
2. “Because everyone is responsible, noone is responsible.” – Vivek Kundra US CIO Vivek Kundra was discussing challenges with government projects.
3. “Want to get promoted? Just one word, Dashboard!” – Dux Raymond Sy
I had the opportunity to present “Leverage Project 2010 with SharePoint 2010 for Project Management Success” for Microsoft during PMINAC.
While discussing the challenges of delivering project reports, I jokingly remarked that the word “Dashboard” can get people promoted in the project management world. Click here to watch the video recording of the presentation.
4. “Airline pilots fly off course 90% of the time, but arrive on time, making constant adjustments. That’s agile PM” – John StenbeckJohn Stenbeck did a great job in providing insights into Agile project management in his session “Agile PM Mastery in 60 minutes” – loved his analogies and practical tips.
5. “At the beginning of a project, it’s like getting on a cruise ship (everyone feels good and happy)” – Cornelius FichterCornelius Fichter, Josh Nankivel, Bas de Baar and I hosted a 30 minute live webcast and shared “3 Project Management Lessons Learned”
One of Cornelius’ tip was to make sure that good relations are established with key stakeholders so even if the cruise ship (project) hits an iceberg (risks+issues), as long as the relationships are solid, the ship won’t sink. You can watch the recording of the webcast by clicking here.
Thanks Dux, these are some great quotes.
It was great to meet you while we were out there!
